THE DEER ONES
AN INTERACTIVE PLAY
In this multi-media exploration of childhood memories, the audience is invited to participate as the imaginary friends of a young girl named Robin, playing in the woods. What starts off as "all fun and games" soon escalates into a series of moral dilemmas and life-changing decisions. With alternate endings based on audience choice, The Deer Ones asks what does it really mean to care for another, how do we carry (or release) guilt and loss, and how do the ghosts of the past shape the adults of the future.

The Creatives
MoonSquid Nights (Michelle Nguyen) is a squid-like human with tentacles in multiple mediums (paint! film! graphic design! pen&sword play!). She enjoys exploring questions like: (i) how do you capture time, (ii) what makes you “you,” (iii) what is a healthy amount of guilt, and (iv) can you ever truly own a cat. She is currently inspired by immersive/interactive theater as a mechanism to pause time/space, and create pocket dimensions for everyday adventuring.
Clark Levi (any/all) is a creator, director, and producer for theatre, film, and online content recently transplanted to Philadelphia, and a longtime Fringer as artist, intern, and staff member for Orlando Fringe. While living in Orlando, they created art and events under their company name, “Lightup Shoebox”, with a mission of encouraging people of all backgrounds to collaborate, discover, and take action through art. This included producing and directing Moira Buffini’s “Silence”, leading a weekly open-to-all artistic club “Play Date”, as well as creating and/or producing world premieres such as TAWC-TTOTS, Ink Addicted, The Devil’s Coda and Carmilla: An American Gothic. They were also the producer for Orlando’s annual event Play-In-A-Day for 2 years (formerly produced by Beth Marshall Presents) and Dickens by Candlelight for 3 years with Three Hats Studios/RS&C. They’ve led workshops on devising, writing, and collaborative creation with Orlando Fringe, Florida Theatre Conference, Central Florida Community Arts, Timucua Arts Foundation, Beth Marshall Presents, and more. They are most excited by theatre for social change, devising, community-based arts, reinventing old works, creating new pieces, and art festivals of all kinds, and are therefore so excited for you to see what The Deer Ones is all about!
Cat Nguyen is a Vietnamese American lawyer, children’s book author, enthusiastic community builder, and serious dabbler with an incurable case of curiosity. She wrote the award-winning A Very Asian Guide to Vietnamese Food and is thrilled to bring Vietnamese dialogue to The Deer Ones. When she’s not working, writing, or plotting community events, she prefers to be in the ocean or the woods with her husband and kids.
